Welcome to the website of Exeter University's conflict free campus!
If you're new to the campaign click here to find out what it's all about.
Exeter's coalition for a conflict free campus is thrilled to announce that the university has signed the conflict free campus declaration!
After months of campaigning the University powers that be decided to join the Student's Guild and include a declaration
about conflict minerals in their ethical procurement legislation. It states that they recognize the conflict in the Congo, our relationship with it and promise to take a company's stance on conflict minerals into account when buying technology.
By doing this we have taken a huge step forward in raising hope for the Congo and making sure that technology companies hear our voice and take action!
We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who was involved in the campaign. To our brilliant Project Congo team and our coalition- this couldn't have happened without you. Your hard work and dedication is the reason that we've managed to make this happen! Thank you also to the members of the Student's Guild and University staff who have also been so supportive of this campaign and without who we wouldn't be where we are today.
We are also thrilled to announce that The National Union of Students has adopted the Conflict Free Campus campaign! Earlier this year Exeter and Durham's student guilds put forward a motion to make all NUS unions sign up to the CFCI. The topic was voted on by the NUS executive committee and passed!
This means that over 600 student unions in the UK will have a conflict free deceleration as part of their procurement legislation! This is an amazing step forward, hugely raising the profile of the campaign and our collective voice as students.
The next step is to make sure that University management, all across the country, follow the example of their student unions and take a stand.
We're only at the beginning, but what a way to start!
